Who is the ‘african diaspora’?

The Afrimerican Culture Initiative Inc. is an ‘inclusive’ group that works for the cultural benefit of the ‘African Diaspora"‘. Our definition of the African diaspora includes all

who are members of or work towards benefit of the descendants of Africans. Our definition is broad but that is because we all are in this together!

DEFINITIONS

  • Afrimericans are defined as the descendants of African Immigrants, however, the most important characteristic of ‘Afrimericans’ is the unique blend of African and American culture. This blend is found in various proportions especially in the Afro-Caribbean , Afro Latin and southern American states. So once you have significant African cultural values in your African Diaspora culture you are an ‘Afrimerican’.

  • African Americans are descendants of African slaves who for the most part have been stripped of their original culture.

  • Afro-Latin are descendants of African slaves and the Portuguese, Spanish or indigenous South American cultures. They usually have a wonderful blend of African and Latin culture.

  • Afro-Caribbean are descendants of African slaves who inhabit the islands of the Caribbean. They usually have distinct African based cultures.

  • African Immigrants are descendants of African immigrants who began to come to American in the sixties during the culmination of the civil rights work of Martin Luther King.

  • Friends of Africa are the allies we have that are not of African descent but through their dedication to the betterment of the descendants of Africa worldwide have become brothers and sisters in the struggle for equal rights and justice for all.
